a gift guide
For those who still need gifts, for others or for you. Definitely not an excuse to send book buy links (at least, not wholly).
I am someone who both loves to Try Everything, and someone who loves to find the One Perfect Thing For Me in any category. Here are a few of those things that might be good for gifting, and also some links to my books, but fancy.
Also, none of these links are affiliate, it’s just stuff I genuinely like.
Fringe Studio spiral bound journals. I am a notebook person, and these have been my ride or dies for nearly a decade now. I like a spiral so it can lay flat on my desk, and I like a lined page because my handwriting is atrocious and needs the help in order to stay somewhat legible. I use mine for everything from a planner to a place to keep lists to making notes for books.
The current notebook, covered in stickers and tabbed to infinity. I have a backstock of them so I never run out.
Ubrand Felt Tip Pens. People have strong feelings about felt tip vs rollerball, but I have always been loyal to the felt tip. Another thing I buy multiple packs of so that I always have them on hand.
Dedcool Red Dakota. Perfume is a great gift for someone you know well, risky for Aunt Helen. But if there IS someone you know well enough to gift fragrance, this is a crowd-pleaser. Juicy and sexy and very unisex.
Supra Oracle Deck by uusi. If you’re gifting to someone who is woo-woo but doesn’t know much about tarot, an oracle deck is a great midpoint. This one is gorgeous and very easy to interpret, for everything from a vibe check to getting inspiration.
Vintage posters. Full disclosure, I have not ordered from the linked site, since I’ve bought all of mine at a kiosk in a thrift shop in town. But, I have used vintage posters for gifts before, and the receivers were very into them! If you know what your giftee likes, you can absolutely find something they’ll be into.
(also I checked because All Posters looked suspiciously like Amazon, but it isn’t owned by Bezos, so you can order from there if you’re boycotting!)
The Wilderwood Orbit Gold Editions. Okay, here’s the part where I link my own stuff, but if you’re gifting to someone who LIKES said stuff, this is a really good option. The covers are clothbound and foiled and look like an old classics edition. There’s a bonus scene of Red and Eammon’s first meeting from Eammon’s POV that is one of my favorite bits of character work I’ve ever written. And it all comes in a really beautiful box with art by Abigail Larson. AND and it’s the only way to get hardcovers of For The Wolf and For The Throne.
Signed and personalized backlist and preorders. A preorder is fun because it’s a Future Gift. Backlist is fun because it ensures I can keep writing books, lol.
If you follow me on Instagram (@hwhittenwrites), I posted something on Black Friday tagging a few of my favorite small businesses that also have cool stuff for gifting! Here’s the post!
I hope your month is merry!

Ooh. How were these spiral bound journals not on my radar before?? Will have to try them out. Also I have gifted the Supra Oracle so many times. Great list!
I had gifted you a little baggie of LOTR stickers at a book reading in Massachusetts, I'm wondering if that woods of lothlorien was one of the stickers in the baggie I gave you 🥹
